The Family Behind the Blog
We are the Darby Family. As a unit, we came together in 2000. Michelle and Angel were a package deal for Brian. We’ve achieved our dream life as of November 2016. We purchased a home located on 6.5 wooded acres and it is our personal paradise. Together, we made family decisions that had us living much differently than a “normal” family. Some of these choices include: being a one-income family, choosing to have only one car, keeping a myriad of pets so the girls are content, homeschooling, and making a firm decision to be happy at home.
The People in the Family
Our newsletter is sent out and monitored by Brian. He tracks our site analytics and helps make key decisions for our company’s growth.
In addition to all of that, he has a full-time job managing the internet department for a large car dealership in the tri-state area. Dedicated and hard-working aren’t descriptive enough for what this man accomplishes day in and day out. We appreciate him immensely!
The writing and customer service for Penny Recipe is provided by Michelle.
When she’s not working on the business, she usually has an animal near her. She has a pack of five dogs that mean the world to her. She has three grand-cats, two grand-ferrets, and a grand-tortoise. Recently, she’s been making friends with dragonflies and hummingbirds.
Most of the graphic design is provided by Angel. She loves to create and we felt it was a perfect fit for her. Seeking quality stock photos takes up much of her work hours.
Spending time creating characters and writing stories is her passion when off duty. She takes good care of her two cats and two ferrets.
To say that she’s an integral part of the Darby Household management is an extreme understatement.
Liz manages our online stores. From answering customer questions to making sure the store is stocked, she’s a mastermind. Creating systems to work efficiently is her specialty.
When off the clock, you can typically find her yelling at her computer playing Minecraft or Sims 4.
Random bursts of cackling while playing are typical disruptions through the house.
There are two reasons that this site exists.
1. Michelle got very, very angry when she learned, at the age of 36, that you can make brownies without a boxed mix. From that moment on, she began to understand how sorely this world needs domestic skills. This is her attempt to pass the information on to younger generations.
2. Brian works very hard. As we write this, he is working Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:30 am – 9:45 pm, and Friday and Saturday 7:30 am – 6:45 pm. In November of 2016, he bought his family their dream home. Michelle and the girls get to gaze out the window every day into their own paradise. Brian is the only one still working. We intend to earn the money so he can live our lives, too. He deserves it.
We are a little strange, but at least we know it. If we can help just one person get control of their kitchen, we’ll feel we’ve succeeded. Please drop us a line. We’d love to get to know you!
