Why I’m Posting a Menu Plan
I’ve been attempting to menu plan for years. I’ve never been good at it.
Well, I’m good at making the plans, I’m not good at following the plans! I think accountability from posting my plans will help me figure out where I get stuck.
Each week, we will post our menu plan on Monday morning. We will also link to the Menu Plan Monday link party, hosted by orgjunkie.com.
The important part of this process, for me, will be updating the post each week and sharing where I went wrong. Each time I mess up my plan there is a different reason or circumstance. If we’re being entirely honest, we’d better throw excuses in there as a reason I don’t or won’t follow my own plans.

I Can’t Tell Myself What to Do
Try as I might, my whims take over. As you can see, I placed BBQ chicken on the menu for dinner on Sunday night. If I wind up with heartburn, I won’t feel like torturing myself with BBQ sauce. I need to create a system that allows me to change plans without spending extra money (eating out,) wasting ingredients (allowing the chicken to go bad,) or driving my family crazy (yeah, right!)
I’ll admit that heartburn is a good reason to change my plans, but I gave you a realistic example. A few more could be:
- It’s raining and we can’t use the grill (but you can bake BBQ chicken)
- We forgot to thaw the chicken (the microwave can assist quickly)
- I neglected to buy BBQ sauce on errand day (um, have you heard of DIY recipes)
There is always a laundry list of reasons, and excuses, why I don’t follow my plans.
The Main Reason
The typical excuse is “I don’t feel like it.” Laziness, lack of planning, or confusion get in my way. I’m attempting to remedy this by sharing my weekly menu plan.
For the record, I can usually cover up laziness with a reasonable excuse. I’ve mastered the art!
So, having told the truth, I’d better get to my make ahead tasks for the day!
